Position: Fire Chief
Salary: Pay Grade 23, expected starting range $55,000 - $65,000 DOQ

Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and directs departmental operations
Establishes overall departmental policies on fire and rescue
Develops long and short-range goals
Works with staff to ensure effective fire fighting operations and to maintain sufficient level of preparedness and training
Prepares budget projections of anticipated expenditures and needs including personnel, equipment, new apparatuses, and supplies
Plans for and coordinates activities surrounding any natural disasters; ensures safety policies and procedures are developed
Prepares and reviews operational and administrative reports
Responds to all major emergency and fire calls
Determines the appropriate structure of the organization to use career and part-time staff in the most efficient manner
Establishes intergovernmental relationships with local, county, state, and federal agencies
Deals tactfully with public and establishes and maintains effective working relationships
Requirements
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of fire service management, fire inspections, and fire training
Thorough knowledge of modern fire fighting practices and methods
Thorough knowledge of the laws and ordinances which pertain to fire prevention and control
Thorough knowledge of the types of industrial and commercial operations
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports analyzing departmental operations
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to effectively supervise and evaluate the work of staff, and to plan, assign, and coordinate activities performed by personnel
Ability to exercise sound judgment and react effectively in emergency situations
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, and perform repetitive motions
Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly
Must possess the visual acuity to perform accounting, computer work, and extensive reading in addition to operating equipment
Education & Experience
Two-year degree in Fire Science or related field supplemented by advanced courses and seminars in fire and rescue administration and considerable experience of an increasingly responsible nature of supervisory experience in the municipal fire service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Bachelors degree preferred
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license and Class B license
NC Level I & II Firefighter, Hazmat, and EMT certifications

Fire Department
Position: Part-time Firefighter
Salary: Hourly Wage DOQ

Duties & Responsibilities
Work is performed under stressful and hazardous conditions.
AM & PM shift hours
Work environments include extreme cold weather, exposure to high heat, chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to atmospheric conditions and working in high places.
Performs routine maintenance & servicing of equipment
Participates in post-fire operations of cleaning & salvage
Ability to use good, sound judgment during a routine or emergency fire call
Attends in- service classes to maintain knowledge of fire suppression and participates in physical training
Knowledge of geography of the City of Clinton including building layouts
Knowledge & skill in administering emergency medical procedures and techniques
Regards the integrity and respects fellow employees
Courteous and respectful to the public
Performs public training classes
Performs other related job duties as required
Requirements
Must have a valid NC Class B driver’s license
Must be 21 years old to operate any fire apparatus
Must have NC Firefighter I & II & Hazmat Certifications
