Hydrants are tested and ISO rated by a very detailed scenario and mathematical formula which projects a value of what would happen if the water main pressures were lowered to 20 psi during a major fire call. In general, the relationship between elevated storage tank location & height and the water main distribution sizes determine the fire flow capabilities.
